Virtual Discovery Kits
The OTM is working to create more virtual programming on an ongoing basis. The Virtual Discovery Kits are a free resource intended for teachers delivering Ontario Curriculum but can be a fun interactive experience for many other groups! The kits can be added as an assignment on your Google Classroom and is best viewed in Desktop mode on a computer.
Boyd Block Discovery Kit
The Osgoode Museum now offers free Online Discovery Kits! Discovery kits are intended for teachers delivering the Ontario Curriculum to Grades 3 & 4, but can be a fun interactive experience for many other ages and groups. Building with Boyd Blocks focuses on settler trades and how those workers would have built up the community around them. It dives into the history of the famous Boyd Brothers of Osgoode and uses examples of images from the museum's collection to show the different styles of block. Students will have the opportunity to complete interactive worksheets, quizzing them on their new knowledge of settler trades, and a fun activity building a Boyd Block house on Google Slides!
Great Cheese Circuit Discovery Kit
Discover about how cheese first came to Canada, and about the cheese-making industry in the Ottawa Valley around the late 19th century and early 20th century! The Great Cheese Circuit Discovery Kit uses artefacts and photographs from the museum's collection of the many cheese factories in the former Osgoode Township to help tell the story. Students will have the opportunity to complete interactive worksheets, quizzing them on their new knowledge of early cheesemaking on Google Slides!
